BANGALORE: A delegation of residents of Ambalpady village in Udupi district,

recently met Governor HR Bharadwaj in Bangalore and requested him to direct the

government to investigate into the financial irregularities in the Sri Janardhana and

Mahakali Temple of Ambalpady in Udupi.

The memorandum submitted to the Governor said “Ambalpady Temple is a government

property. Still, the revenue earned by the temple is reaching the hands of a family which

claims itself to be the trustees of the temple.”

The memorandum has urged the governor to ensure steps to appoint an administrative

officer to oversee the functioning of the temple and pointed out that the government

action of frequently replacing the mujrai ministers has contributed to such irregularities.

The delegation also explained to the governor that the temple earns no less than Rs

3 crores to Rs 4 crores every year and added the personal assets of the temple itself

accounted to Rs 100crores.

The delegation also produced before the governor documents to prove that the temple

belonged to the government.

The letter also said that the “Mujrai minister VS Acharya was keen on handing over the

temple administration to private parties and added politicians were conspiring to hand

over the temple administration to the trustees, though there is no scope for amendment to

the Endowment Fund Act 2003.

Steps should be taken to see that the government does not give scope for the same, the

letter urged the governor.
