MANGALORE: Sri Rama Sene activists staged a protest outside the Kadri Police station
on September 3, Friday night demanding arrest of a woman who has been accused of
converting a Hindu girl into Christianity and getting her married off.
The case goes as follows. About 14 years ago, Tukra Poojari of Sakleshpur had entrusted
his daughter Yashoda to the care of Mariza Noronha, a resident of Capital Apartment
near Kadri toll Gate, to facilitate the education of Yashoda.
But Mariza, it is learnt, instead of sending Yashoda to school, used her services as a
domestic help. The girl was also refrained from contacting her father or any of her
relative and was detained and tortured, Tukra Poojari in his complaint with Kadri Police
has alleged.
It is also said that Mariza had even converted Yashoda into Christianity, without her
father’s consent, and had also got her married off to a local youth. Sources also said that
at one stage Mariza had also coerced Tukra Poojari to opt for conversion.
But, no sooner Tukra Poojari realized that his daughter has been converted and married
off, he landed in Mangalore only for the accused to prevent him from enquiring about
the well being of his daughter.
This news somehow fell into the ears of the Sri Rama Sene. Soon around 10 to 20 Sene
activists arrived at Kadri police station at around 8.30 pm on Friday and demanded the
arrest of Mariza and also an independent probe into the case.
Kadri police have registered a case and are conducting the investigations.
