Public property details in GPs to go digital

Posted on Sep 4th, 2010 and filed under Local News.

MANGALORE : The Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat has a proposal to digitalize all

details pertaining to public properties being utilized by gram panchayats, through the

Global Positioning System (GPS).

Under the scheme, the camera in the GPS would capture images of all public properties

like schools and hospitals and store it in the computer.

Initially, such a project would be implemented in Kurnad Gram Panchayat of Bantwal

taluk, informed P Shivashanker, Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat. All

public properties including Angavanadis and water supply projects would be documented

in digital format. This project would facilitate framing of good schemes for a village.

For instance, if the gram panchayat places forth a demand to open a school in the village,

then the Zilla Panchayat CEO can gather all details regarding the existing schools in the

village, by sitting right in his office.

However, this scheme will as of now not provide any details regarding the houses in the

villages. It is estimated that each gram panchayat would have to spend Rs 40,000 for this

scheme.
