BANTWAL : The case of assault on a sixth standard student of Sajipamunnur
Government Higher Primary school, by a teacher has taken a new twist with the case
now brought before the Human Rights Commission.
Earlier the boy Ubaid’s father had brought the matter to the notice of Padi, an NGO
striving to protect child rights. The organization has now referred the case to the Human
Rights Commission.
It has been alleged that the teacher Suresh Gowda, in a fit of anger on seeing the children
raise a shout as he left the class, had hit the students including Ubaid who suffered an
injury on his back and had to be hospitalized.
The Campus Front of India had lodged a complaint in this regard with the Bantwal Block
Education Officer. Meanwhile, a group of teachers of the school, had arrived at Ubaid’s
house and had requested his family not to blow this issue out of proportions. However,
Ubaid’s father was not present in the house on that occasion. Meanwhile, the teacher has
complained that Ubaid’s father Hameed had tried to attack him and had also abused and
threatened him. The complaint submitted to the gram panchayat president also said the
incident has created panic among the teachers who find it difficult to conduct classes in a
free atmosphere.
The school headmaster, the school betterment committee and secretary however say
the issue was unnecessarily highlighted in order to bring disrepute to the school and its
teachers.
