VITTAL : Family members of a school boy Sharath who was severely injured in alleged

police brutality, have complained that the Vittal police were trying to hush up the case.

It may be recalled here that Sharath along with some other boys, had been picked up

by the police when they were playing volleyball on the morning of September 1, on the

charges of stealing a mobile.

Speaking about the incident, Sharath, a resident of Salettur said “The police who arrived

at the playground asked me and my brothers to step into the jeep. We were taken to the

station where the cops questioned us about the missing mobile of Jayaram Shetty of

Pudichettur village of Kolnad. They later stripped us and tortured us.”

” I was made to remain nude in the lock-up for five hours. Later my parents took me

and admitted me to Bantwal hospital. Still the police got me forcibly discharged from the

hospital. The hospital doctors too have abetted with the cops in hushing up this case,”

Sharath said.

Even Sharath’s father Gopal Nayak said his son’s body bore injury marks all over and

he was also unable to stand properly.

Meanwhile, District Superintendent of Police Dr AS Rao has instructed Puttur DySP to

investigate into the case on the basis of a complaint lodged by Sharath’s father Gopal

Nayak. Accordingly, Puttur ASP Amith Singh and Bantwal inspector Nanjundegowda

have visited Vittal to investigate into the case. They even enquired the Vittal head

constable Babu Gowda and three other personnel and also the family of Sharath.
