Condemnations galore against arrest of Karavali Ale staff

MANGALORE: Various organizations have strongly condemned the act of the Kadri

police in arresting two staff of Karavali Ale on false charges.

PB D’Sa, District President of the PUCL has urged the Police Commissioner to

unconditionally release the newspaper staff and withdraw the case against them. D’Sa

said “Karavali Ale is a secular newspaper that works in the interests of all communities.

The Mangalore police have embarked upon this operation with malafied intention. This

action of curbing the freedom of Press is condemnable,”

B Madhava, CPIM Secretary, has also strongly condemned the arrest. Stressing the need

to strive to protect Freedom of Press, he said the party would decide on its future course

of action on this issue at its state level meeting.

Jayan Malpe, Dalit leader in a press communiqué, has said the Mangalore’s new Police

Commissioner has disappointed the people by arresting a newspaper staff on false

charges as part of a systematic racket of some vested interests which are working against

the newspaper which has lent a voice to the sufferings of the oppressed.

Udupi District JD(S) President Deviprasad Shetty, Vijaykumar Hegde, President of the

Anti-Nagarjuna Action Committee, Kavu Hemanath Shetty, President of Puttur Block

Congress and Suresh Bhat of Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike, have also condemned

the arrest in strong words.
