MANGALORE: An Iftar Meet in a Hindu Daivasthana, that too in a communally

sensitive Katipalla? Unbelievable, but has to be believed.

This unique Iftar Meet was held at the Sri Sarala Dhoomavathi Daivasthana in Katipalla

seventh block at Suratkal. The credit of organizing this Iftar Meet with an intention of

promoting Hindu-Muslim unity should go to the Daivasthana’s management committee.

Even the Youth Wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind of Katipalla extended its full co-

operation for this meeting which was participated by over 400 Hindu-Muslim brethren.

Several of the participants in this unique meet described this as a novel programme.

Several people even from far off places attended the meeting.

Sweets were distributed, soft drinks served and Hindu-Muslim brethren were seen

greeting each other and shaking hands.

“Peace, brotherhood and harmony are the essence of every religion and we have seen it

here. This is a good way of building bridges of friendship and harmony between different

religions,” says Mohammad Kunhi, Manager of Shanthi Prathishtana. The Kannada

translation of Quran was distributed to the guests who attended the meeting.

Haji Mumtaz Ali, President of Al Badria English Medium School, Belliappa, Suratkal

Circle Inspector, Hamza, former principal of Badria PU College, Tilakraj, Corporator and

others attended the meet,

The organizers said they have plans to hold a similar meet even next year and gather over

1000 people.

The Daivasthana Managing Trustee Pramod informed that leaders of both communities

who attended the meet, have assured to put up banners greeting each other during the

Hindu and Muslim festivals.
