MANGALORE: The study of the Black Box of the ill-fated Air India Express aircraft
that crash-landed near Bajpe on May 22 killing 158 persons on board has revealed
that during the journey the Chief Pilot was asleep for over 1 hour and 50 minutes. The
Directorate General of Civil Aviation has produced before the BN Gokhale led Central
Investigation Agency, the analysis of the Cockpit Voice Recorder of the Black Box
which consists of details regarding the conversation between the two pilots in the cock-
pit among other things.
An analysis of audio on the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) shows that the Air India
Express Boeing 737 was incorrectly aligned to the runway while attempting to land.
Moreover it also came to light that there had been practically no conversation between
Captain Glucika and co-pilot HS Ahluwalia for half an hour after the plane took off.
The Black Box investigation has also revealed that the weather was good and there was
visibility of the runway from a distance of 6 kms. The entire report on the Black Box is
expected to be produced before the Central Investigation Agency by this month end.
