MANGALORE: The mystery behind the Abdul Kareem murder case reported from near Capitanio in the city recently has been solved with the police arresting Kareem’s wife and her lover for the murder.
District Superintendent of Police Subrahmanyeshwara Rao furnished information on this case and the modus operandi of the killers, at a press meet in the city on Monday.
It may be mentioned here that a merchant by named Abdul Kareem was found dead in the bedroom of his flat near Capitanio recently under mysterious circumstances during the days of Ramzan fasting. Though initially Kareem’s wife, in her statement to the police had named one Abdul Ravoof who had lent money to Kareem as the suspect, as of now it has become very much clear that it was she who had hatched the murder plot in connivance with her lover Venkatesh. Meanwhile, the money lender Abdul Ravoof had to remain in custody for several days following the complaint of Kareem’s wife, while he actually had no role in the murder.
It has now been gathered that Kareem’s wife Samshad who was fed up with Kareem’s extra marital affairs with several women had prepared a sketch to eliminate her husband with the assistance of Venkatesh with whom she was involved in an affair.
Venkatesh, it is said, had even lent money to Abdul Kareem and this had led to frequent tussles between the two. Meanwhile, Kareem had once even threatened to kill Venkatesh.
On September 12, Samshad who rang up Venkatesh ,informed him about her plans and requested him to come to Mangalore. Accordingly, Venkatesh arrived in Mangalore and stayed at the Blue Star Lodge. The same night when everyone was asleep, she asked Venkatesh to come home and opened the door for him when he arrived at around 1 am. Later, she tried to kill Kareem who was fast asleep by tying up his legs and then trying to choke him to death by pressing a pillow against his face. However, when Kareem woke up, Venkatesh hit him hard with a wooden club on his head and private parts, killing him instantly. It has been gathered that both the killers had taken care to wear gloves while committing the act. Later on, Samshad had given a spare key of the house to Venkatesh using which he locked Samshad’s bed room from outside and left for Mysore.
Police have now recovered the wooden club, mobile phone, bike and the clothes worn by the killers while committing the crime.
