PUTTUR: Villagers of Bettampady who are fed up with the apathetic attitude of the authorities to initiate action against illicit liquor trade in their village have challenged the authorities that if given a chance they would expose the illicit liquor racket within four days.
At the Janaspandana programme held recently, villagers even expressed strong doubts over the presence of an excise department in the village. They had in fact intervened while Assistant Superintendent of Excise Department Arun Kumar was furnishing information at the meeting.
The main grouse of the villagers was that the excise department had failed to act upon even the written complaint lodged with it by the Jana Jagrithi Vedike giving clues on the illicit liquor trade which was active in several places of the taluk. They also expressed doubts if the excise officials were in hand in gloves with the illicit liquor traders.
When Assistant Excise Commissioner Harish Kumar said the taluk magistrate has already been requested to convene a meeting of excise officials, the villagers said they themselves would bust the racket if given four days’ time.
Finally, everything cooled down after officials assured to initiate suitable action to end the menace.
