Bannanje Raja case: Will cops return empty handed from Dubai?

Posted on Oct 16th, 2009 and filed under General.

MANGALORE: A senior police officer from Karnataka has already left for Dubai to seek the custody of the notorious underworld don Bannanje Raja who has been detained by the Dubai police for attempting to travel using a fake passport. However, it is said the chances of the police officer successful in his endeavour were very remote.
But, it is being said that the path is easy for Bannanje Raja to escape from Dubai from where he intended to fly to Malaysia using a fake passport/
It is also being said that the attempts of Indian police officials to seek the transfer of Raja may not be successful as the Government of India had delayed serving a red corner notice to Raja through the CBI.
Though police officials from the state had been saying since a month ago that efforts were underway to seek the custody of underworld dons hailing from the state and controlling the crime world here from Gulf nations, so far no such notices had not been served to the police officials in Dubai. Sources say therefore, the process of transferring Raja to India with Interpol aid may be a difficult task.
According to a senior police official of the state, the department here received the information on Raja’s arrest quite late. Meanwhile according to another source, Raja who had contacted some persons close to him in Udupi has told them that he would shortly be released in Dubai.
In fact, Raja had been to Dubai using a fake passport in the year 1996 itself. His wife is also living in Dubai.
