BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board has decided to chalk out a new and effective pollution control strategy after undertaking a thorough study of the extensive pollution caused by various industries in different parts of the state.

The study would document the extent to which the environment was harmed due to the chemical effluents released by the fertilizer and pesticide factories in various districts. The effluents released would be subject to test in private laboratories and the extent of pollution caused by each industry would be ascertained. These measures would facilitate issue of necessary instructions to the industries concerned to reduce pollution.

SEZ activist’s house razed to ground amid protests

KIADB officials forcibly demolished the house and destroyed the agricultural land of progressive farmer and local panchayat vice president Gregory Patrao at Kalavar on Wednesday, following High Court orders that vacated the stay to the acquisition of the land. Gregory was one man in Kalavar who had stood like a rock against letting his land for the SEZ and had even moved the court against the acquisition of his land.
