The Nitte Gram Panchayat meeting held here on June 29, Wednesday, was
cancelled after the meeting witnessed pandemonium when the ruling BJP and the Congress
members engaged in a war of words and villagers resorted to protest forcing the cops to
intervene.
The BJP government in the state is continuing its liberal policy in sanctioning
grants to Mutts and Mandirs. According to one estimate, the government has sanctioned over Rs
50 crores for Mutts in the state during the past six months.

In an incident reported from Uppinangady, villagers took the local Gram
Panchayat President to task for not ensuring suitable steps for effective disposal of wastes from
the town. The incident took place at the water and cleanliness committee meeting held at the
Samaja Mandir Hall on June 29, Wednesday.
The Bank Road in Uppinangady, which is one of the busiest roads of the
town, is facing problems due to haphazard parking of vehicles. This has even led to frequent
traffic jams in the area, inconveniencing the public as well as motorists alike.
In a shocking revelation, it has been reported that several children in Panaje village
on the borders of Karnataka and Kerala are losing their eye sight due to the deadly effect of
the pesticide Endosulfan. Revealing this, Aboobakker Arlapadavu, President of the Gadinada
Shreyobhivridhi Trust and a social worker, said the deadly pesticide has caused much damage
in Panaje, Arlapadavu, Kondalyana and Bharanya area and added the aerial spray of the
pesticide by the Kerala plantation Corporation in Kasargod, had affected Panaje, which is a
border area.
It has been reliably learnt that the goondaism resorted to by the BUDA Chief
Govind Prabhu and his gang in Bantwal recently, had triggered the resignation of the Coastal
Development Authority Chairman Nagaraj Shetty more so because Prabhu was a staunch loyalist
of Shetty.
A dam constructed by the Kerala Government across Anekallu River in Karopady
village on the Kerala-Karnataka border, despite opposition from villagers, as feared, is creating
much problems for the villagers.
